Why were the bars of pink soaps considered a bad joke as the marketing image for the movie fight club?

I read on wikipedia that for the movie Fight Club, bars of pink soap were used for the marketing image but "studio executives considered the concept 'a bad joke'." Can someone please explain why?

From what I know and what I've read, they originally just wanted the soap to be the focus point of the promos but Fox insisted that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton be included (for obvious reasons). Other than that, maybe the studio thought that since the soap was made of human body fat in the movie that it would be in "poor taste".
