Why do the bottom of my forks shudder when applying the front brake?
I have Rockshox Reba suspension forks and a Hayes front disc brake with a Shimano IS mount, all the bolts are tight but when applying the front brake fairly hard the bottom of the forks seem to shudder back and forth. Why would this be happening as it is really starting to bug me!

something is either worn out or needs adjustment.
If the steering head is loose, the forks will shudder when the brake is applied.
If there is play in the forks, the forks will shudder. This might happen if there is insufficient lubrication if this is applicable.
An out of true wheel might cause the forks to shudder (v brakes) or if the rotor is out of true (discs).
The front wheel hub bearings being out of adjustment or worn out could cause the forks to shudder.
Or, they may be bad forks.
Personally, I've never used a disc brake that is any better than a quality hub brake that is unaffected by the weather or the terrain. They are perceived to be so much heavier. A v brake is still excellent value for money and easily fixed if you are miles from home.
